What Happens If the Government Shuts Down?

In the event of a government shutdown, immigration processes may face significant delays. Agencies that rely on congressional funding—such as the Department of Labor (DOL) and immigration courts—could suspend or limit their operations. For example, DOL systems like FLAG, used for LCAs and PERM filings, may become unavailable, and hearings for non-detained cases might be postponed. However, USCIS would mostly continue operating since it is funded by application fees. It's recommended to plan ahead by filing early and monitoring agency updates.
