On March 21, the Trump administration announced it will terminate the CHNV parole program, which provided a legal pathway for nationals of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to enter the U.S. with the support of sponsors and work authorization.
The program had successfully reduced unauthorized entries and helped fill labor shortages across the country. However, according to a notice set to be published in the Federal Register on March 25, all current grants of parole will be prematurely terminated on April 24. The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) strongly criticized the decision, stating it undermines both humanitarian efforts and the U.S. economy. AILA leaders emphasized that ending this program will punish individuals who followed legal procedures, increase undocumented populations, and harm American businesses already struggling with labor gaps.
